About Ancient Europe
Explore Europe as it once was.
Ancient Europe is a digital atlas exploring the landscapes, cultures and environments of prehistoric Europe.
From the last Ice Age to the rise of the first farming communities, the landscape of Europe changed dramatically, and so did the flora, fauna and humans living in it.
The atlas brings together maps, archaeological discoveries, geological information and palaeogeographic reconstructions to explore this changing world.
Discover ancient coastlines, lost landscapes, prehistoric cultures and the remarkable monuments left behind by the people who lived here thousands of years ago.
This is an ongoing project. New maps, places, discoveries and stories will be added as the atlas develops.
Ancient Europe is created as an independent research initiative, bringing together perspectives from geology, archaeology, palaeogeography and related fields.
